Lose yourself in the Beauty of Girraween National Park
Release your inner nature lover in the stunning landscape of Girraween National Park! Located in Queensland’s Granite Belt, this park offers a unique escape into a world of massive granite outcrops, balancing boulders, vibrant wildlife, and spectacular wildflowers. Girraween, meaning "place of flowers" in the local Aboriginal language, truly lives up to its name, offering one of the most stunning wildflower displays in the region.

A Landscape Unlike Any Other
Girraween is home to sunlit granite outcrops, clear streams, and tumbling cascades, set within 11,800 hectares of eucalypt forests, heathlands, and sedgelands. This diverse landscape provides a haven for plants and animals found nowhere else in Queensland. The park’s walking trails lead you to iconic spots like the Pyramids, Mount Norman, and The Sphinx, offering unforgettable experiences for hikers and climbers of all levels.

Wildflower Wonderland
From late winter through to summer, Girraween transforms into a breathtaking wildflower spectacle. Starting with golden wattle and vibrant pea flowers, the park’s forests, woodlands, and heathlands burst into colour. Over 700 species of blossoms bloom in a stunning display, with the highlight coming in September and October.
Expect delicate white heath bells, grass trigger plants, native bluebells, banksias, and daisies to fill the landscape with beauty. As summer arrives, the wildflower display continues with flannel flowers, bottlebrushes, paperbarks, and eucalypts, offering a vibrant show throughout the seasons.

A Birdwatcher's Paradise
Girraween National Park is a must-visit destination for birdwatching enthusiasts. With 170 bird species calling the park home, you'll have plenty of opportunities to spot rare and beautiful birds. Early risers will be greeted by the cheerful sounds of wrens, robins, and thornbills flitting through the underbrush.
Honeyeaters, parrots, and treecreepers forage high in the eucalypt trees, while the elusive superb lyrebird—more often heard than seen—delights those with a keen ear. Whether you're an experienced birdwatcher or just beginning, Girraween offers an abundance of birdlife to discover and admire.

Discover Girraween’s Rich Wildlife
In addition to its birds, Girraween is a sanctuary for fascinating wildlife. Reptiles like Cunningham’s skinks and eastern water dragons bask in the sun, darting under rocks or along creekbeds. Frogs thrive in the moist areas, while snakes slither through the leaf litter. By day, red-necked wallabies and eastern grey kangaroos graze lazily in the open grassy areas. As night falls, the park comes alive with nocturnal creatures, such as common brushtail possums, sugar gliders, feathertail gliders, and echidnas foraging through the trees or across the ground.

An Unforgettable Year-Round Experience
Girraween National Park’s temperate climate makes it an ideal year-round destination. In winter, the park may even be dusted with snow, adding to its magical charm. Whether you’re exploring in the warmth of summer or the crisp winter air, Girraween offers an unforgettable adventure every season.
