Discover the wild heart of Southwestern Queensland

The great Queensland Outback is one of the most “alive” places you could visit on the planet. From shimmering grasses to immense deltas flowing with fresh water, high rocky crests, unique desert flora and fauna, and the occasional burst of wildflowers, the landscape is vibrant with life. It’s a place where birds rule the skies: did you know the Cunnamulla region alone is home to 57 varieties and over 201 species of native birds, including one of the rarest in Australia, the Grey Falcon?

A Kaleidoscope of colour and natural beauty

But there’s so much more to discover! The southwestern Queensland Outback offers a kaleidoscope of colour, where towering sandstone formations, deep gorges, and lush waterways meet the vast red sands. Far from being just “red dirt as far as the eye can see,” this region boasts more than 20 national parks scattered across a 901,574km² landscape, teeming with natural beauty and rich history.

The Eco tour to the Bunya Mountains with Flora 4 Fauna exceeded my expectations. As an emerging wildlife photographer, I found the walking pace perfect to be able to zoom in on the many native flora and fauna that showed off in vibrant displays of colours and shapes. Ambling beneath the cooling canopy of this unique ancient subtropical rainforest and marvelling at its abundance and splendour was candy for the soul. The best part was to have Kemp share his intricate learnings of the native flora and fauna we saw. Together with his storytelling and to be able to enjoy Bunya Nut infused local delicacies the experience came full circle.Kemp's intimate knowledge of the rural road network combined with the air conditioned comfort of the car made for a relaxing travel experience.

Christel

“Fantastic day exploring some very special spots right here in SE Qld. Lots of valuable info that everyone should learn to live within our wonderful environment amongst such beautiful creatures!”

Susan Robb

“We recently purchased 20 acres and not long after got Kemp from Flora 4 Fauna out for a consultation. This was hands down the best thing we did, were very glad we did it early on! Not only did Kemp advise us what plants would work well, but also identified species we already had growing (which we would have never known without him).

Kemp recommended specific plants & placements that would be beneficial. We didn’t have high expectations of survival as we have very sandy soil, and we only get out to the block once a week to water. Following Kemp’s guidance, all of our plants have not only survived but are thriving! This was a great feeling to have so many wins and see things thriving, as opposed to struggling to keep things alive. “

The eco tour through the Bunya Mountains with Kemp from Flora 4 Fauna offers a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in nature. The day takes you through the stunning rainforest, past towering bunya trees and trickling streams. Along the way, we learned about the region's rich biodiversity, Indigenous history, and the vital role these ecosystems play in the environment. The trail is easy to moderate, making it accessible for most fitness levels. Kemp is incredibly informative, sharing interesting facts about local wildlife, plant species, and conservation efforts in the area. The focus on sustainability and environmental education adds a deeper layer to the experience, making it not just a hike, but an educational journey. If you're looking to explore one of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes while learning about conservation and wildlife protection, the Bunya Mountains eco walk with Flora 4 Fauna is a must. It’s the perfect blend of adventure, education, and connection with nature.
