Gondwanan Rainforest Tours

Exploring the Ancient Gondwanan Rainforests of Southeast Queensland

Step into a living time capsule in the breathtaking Gondwana Rainforests of southeast Queensland, where towering ancient trees and diverse ecosystems tell a story that began over 180 million years ago. These rainforests, part of the largest subtropical rainforest system on Earth, are home to plant and animal species that have survived since the supercontinent Gondwana ruled the planet. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, these forests offer a unique glimpse into Earth's evolutionary past, with ancient trees like the Antarctic Beech standing as guardians of a bygone era.

A Vast and Vital Sanctuary

Spanning over 366,500 hectares, from Newcastle to Brisbane, the rainforests are a sanctuary for more than 200 rare or threatened species, including the elusive Albert’s Lyrebird. They are vital for conservation and support diverse wildlife, including mountain brushtail possums, sugar gliders, and the Richmond birdwing butterfly. The diverse landscapes of Lamington National Park and Springbrook National Park, both parts of this incredible region, offer experiences of lush rainforests, cascading waterfalls like Twin Falls and Purlingbrook Falls, and the magical glowworm caves of Natural Bridge.

Birdwatching and Nature Exploration

Birdwatchers will delight in sightings of rare species like the yellow-tailed black cockatoo and Albert’s lyrebird, while nature lovers can explore varied ecosystems ranging from subtropical rainforests to heathlands. The serene atmosphere, cool mist, and vibrant wildlife make these national parks perfect for birdwatching, hiking, and immersing oneself in nature's wonders.

Lamington National Park: A UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sanctuary

Lamington National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed sanctuary, is home to Antarctic Beech trees that have flourished for thousands of years, along with fascinating species like the Lamington underground orchid. The park is also a biodiversity hotspot, offering a chance to discover unique bushfoods like finger limes, native guava and lillypillies, with every step taking you deeper into the story of Australia's natural history.

Kate Wall, Gardening Coach

“Great service and so much knowledge. Raising awareness about native plants, flora, fauna and protecting our environment. Thank you.”

Suzanne Grey

“We recently purchased 20 acres and not long after got Kemp from Flora 4 Fauna out for a consultation. This was hands down the best thing we did, were very glad we did it early on! Not only did Kemp advise us what plants would work well, but also identified species we already had growing (which we would have never known without him).

Kemp recommended specific plants & placements that would be beneficial. We didn’t have high expectations of survival as we have very sandy soil, and we only get out to the block once a week to water. Following Kemp’s guidance, all of our plants have not only survived but are thriving! This was a great feeling to have so many wins and see things thriving, as opposed to struggling to keep things alive. “

Sophie Oliver

The Eco tour to the Bunya Mountains with Flora 4 Fauna exceeded my expectations. As an emerging wildlife photographer, I found the walking pace perfect to be able to zoom in on the many native flora and fauna that showed off in vibrant displays of colours and shapes. Ambling beneath the cooling canopy of this unique ancient subtropical rainforest and marvelling at its abundance and splendour was candy for the soul. The best part was to have Kemp share his intricate learnings of the native flora and fauna we saw. Together with his storytelling and to be able to enjoy Bunya Nut infused local delicacies the experience came full circle.Kemp's intimate knowledge of the rural road network combined with the air conditioned comfort of the car made for a relaxing travel experience.
